For the tight Colmar track the field was split into two halves; the big class B cars had a race of their own, and unlike Spa the BMWs were up to speed again here, thanks to new electronics from BMW Motorsport. Duez had pole ahead of Tassin, Slaus and Van de Poele while Martin had insoluble handling problems all weekend. The start was for Audi; both cars left the BMWs standing, and in lap 4 Tassin and Van de Poele collided at the same time as Duez came in with a broken spark plug - things were not going well for BMW. With a broken steering rod, Tassin crept to the pits against the will of the marshals. The other race was a combined cat. A and C race; the FIA class 2 cars were quickest of course, with a double victory for the Peugeot shared by Bertrand Gachot and Georges Cremer, replacing Bachelart for this race. The start of race 1 was curious when the lights did not work; the hastily dropped flag was understood by about half of the grid, so a restart was necessary. The Seat team fared a little better now with the first podium for Van Dalen. |
