With DTM and its Class 2 subdivision, DTT and DTC it seemed that there were enough places for amateurs and professionals to race a car with a roof - but not so: the ADAC organised a series for GT2-ish cars, where we found amidst the GTs from Porsche, Honda and Toyota cars like the BMW M3 and the Escort Cosworth. BMW even built special cars for the series (the BMW M3 GT) and even a special version of this special car, the M3 GTR, only for works drivers Cecotto and Nissen. There was a division 2 for the real amateur, but those cars were expensive too so only six turned up against 21 division 1 cars.
The race had to be done with a limited amount of fuel (40 litres) and in practice Cecotto got pole, ahead of Nissen and Reuter (Porsche 968 Turbo RS). But would they last the distance?
The question would not be answered, in an entertaining race with various leaders it was Cecotto who finished first when it was stopped after 23 laps, since Niedzwiedz, Nissen and Hahne missed their breaking points on the flooded north part of the track.
