The daunting Spa track had happy memories for Michel De Deyne’s Serge Power team; a fine victory last year with guest driver Malcher should be followed with good results with the help of M3 crack and F1 driver Van de Poele. That was not the only one with F1 experience; the MVS was now shared between Witmeur and female Brabham pilot Giovanna Amati. Van Dalen had a Porsche for him alone now, while another ex-F1 driver Patrick Nève returned and shared a car with Pirnay. Tassin, who had recovered to sixth in heat 1 while preserving his tires was dominant in heat 2 with his 2.3 M3, though Van Dalen initially led, then Slaus went ahead but in lap 5 Tassin sailed past and won the race, with Slaus second and Verellen third, while Van Dalen was left with no tires and was only sixth. |
