After Scotland, it was now Wales which was the next stop for the BTCC. The weather was the same as Scotland, which made practice a lottery. Kris Nissen replaced the injured Menu, while the accident-prone Verdon-Roe was replaced by Alex Portman. Ray Bellm, unhappy after practice, declared his retirement from the Shell BMW team and the BTCC.
All started on slicks despite a slight drizzle, and the BMWs on the front row took command. Cleland was holding third at a distance, ahead of Sugden, Nissen, Leslie, Allam, Rouse and Hoy. After an earlier effort, Sugden finally snatched third from Cleland. The drizzle was now enough to wet the track, which plagued especially Leslie with his Dunlops. Cleland lost another place to Nissen, so it was a BMW 1-2-3-4, before Cleland retired with engine troubles.
With this win, Harvey rose to fourth in the championship standings: an outsider for the title?
