Hoy got pole for the first time this year, coming to terms with the front-wheel drive Toyota. Cleland shared the front row ahead of Rouse and Allam - Vauxhall and Toyota still the pace setters. Soper had to start from the back since he missed practice - he had other racing commitments in Germany.
Cleland took the lead right after the start, closely followed by Hoy and Rouse. But the Scotsman overcooked it on his still cold rear tires; he started losing it as early as Foulston, but a little later at Druids, he lost it completely, slid left and right and smacked into the barriers - and ended sideways in the middle of the track. Hoy and Rouse sailed past, but the others had to take avoiding action. They all survived, but Hoy and Rouse were clear of the pack now while Cleland went into the pits but could continue to 11th after a check. Hoy and Rouse entertained the audience, but Hoy’s engine cut out a few times so in the end Rouse had an easy victory with Hoy still second. Third was Allam with Harvey fourth.
Sugden had a busy afternoon on his way to ninth; he first ran into teammate Menu at the start, then put Gravett into the barriers and finally punted Odor.
