Toyota was on a high and the front row at Brands brought no difference: Hoy ahead of Rouse. In third it would have been Soper, but the Vic Lee team held both Soper and Harvey too long in the pits; it was closed and both BMWs had to start from the pit lane - on cold tires.
Cleland tried to outsmart the Toyotas but it was not enough and the Rouse cars were leading the race, while behind Bellm (in the third Vic Lee car) was nudged from behind, spun and he was hit by both Watts and Middlehurst - all three were out. That was not the end of the mayhem, since Rouse had passed Hoy and the latter retook the lead from him, while Cleland slipped through to second. Now Hoy missed a gear, Cleland got through and Rouse tried to do the same; it ended in tears with both Toyotas spinning and hitting each other as well as the barriers - and both were out.
The real fight was over and it were Soper and Harvey who did the main job to get to the front; in the end Soper finished third behind Cleland and Allam.
