The big guns finally had a Nissan on pole; but the car was soon passed by Schmnitt’s Cosworth and in the end the Skyline with Scholz behind the wheel only finished fifth - “too slow in the corners”.
Andy Middendorf had an eventful afternoon. While leading his class, the engine switched off unexpectedly. He could restart the car, but by then Neumeister had passed. Again, Middendorf’s M3 cut out, and this time it was Lautner who benefited, but then Neumeister got his share of misfortune and he retired with a broken gear linkage. Lautner was held up by some backmarkers, Middendorf closed and retook the lead. Alas, in the last lap, he too became victim of the backmarkers and finally Lautner crossed the line in first place.
The 2000 cc class went to Hebler ahead of Senge, while Schirra - third fastest - became victim of the melee after the start.
