Problems for the Vic Lee team, so successful in the first two rounds; the exhaust was found to be too noisy, so modifications were necessary. This didn’t work out for Hoy, who came in the second lap with the cockpit full of smoke and even a small fire under the hood. While Soper won from Cleland and Sytner, Bellm came to a halt just before the line not wanting to be classified 6th - and facing post-race scrutineering, where he might have a noise problem too. Unfortunately, the only one passing him was Tim Harvey in a Vic Lee prepared M3 as well; and he was promptly disqualified after the race for not keeping within the limits of noise regulations. Bitter, since he was asked to start and now scored -48 points for doing so, effectively removing him from the championship. |
