The return of a decent Formula Ford field to Zandvoort ended in a disappointment, but both touring car races were full of action. The over-2000 cc race saw Coronel being replaced by Hoogeveen in the ex-Huisman M3, since the regular Rijnhaave car was destroyed at the last meeting. Hoogeveen now got some practice in an M3 with an eye to Spa, while Coronel could give better support to Reinders in the 2000 class. The race was dominated by van der Beek in the Mazda, while Krab met more opposition: after a touch, Langeberg, van Dedem and van Krimpen slipped by. But he went for it, snapped van Krimpen and closed on Langeberg; but the latter disappeared in the gravel trap, seemingly on his own. That was it for Krab, since van Dedem was too far ahead. The under-2000 cc race saw the inexperienced Reinders on pole, and he got it all wrong on the flying start despite instructions from course director Splinter. Bolderheij zoomed by, but Reinders saw van ‘t Hoff (throttle), van Reenen (incident) and Bolderheij (blown tire after contact) disappear so only Huisman was ahead of him - and stayed there, none withstanding the weight penalty. From behind, teammate Coronel fended off any opposition so the young man found himself on the rostrum. |
