Sunny weather and 25.000 spectators: a good day at the Avus, and the risk of organising two races in the same year paid off. Not for Scholz, on pole with the Skyline: he lost the lead in lap one, en retired soon after, leaving the win to Hess and Rabe in their Ringshausen Sierras. The 2500 class was more exciting, with five cars fighting for the lead. Neumeister retired and Goeser won, closely followed by the remaining three M3’s.
In the 2000 class, points leader Senge should be helped by his numerous teammates; but Fritsche (Heinz-Otto, that is) rammed his team leader in the Südkurve because of failing brakes. With a battered car Senge did the unthinkable and secured second behind Hebler - thus salvaging precious points and perhaps the title.
