Decision day at Zandvoort for the over-2000 class. The over-2000 cc had a few new faces; Lionel Abbot brought a Saab 9000 turbo from the UK, but what was that third Mercedes in the paddock? It was destined for works driver Fritz Kreuzpointner, to help van Dedem. But the latter could do no better than seventh on the grid, with Euser on pole, Hin second and Fritz third. Hin had te best start, but Euser took over in lap 2, had a small fight with Fritz the German which ended when the Mercedes driver was too rough on the kerbs and predictably blew a tire. Kreuzpointner was surprised by the level of competition and promised to be back next year. Abbott could do no better than eight, another sign that the class had grown to a professional level indeed. |
