The one-hour endurance race for cars under 2000 cc was the main event of the day; a mandatory pit stop for refuelling and a tire change was included, a change of drivers optional - we saw some unusual combinations. The over 2000 cc race brought yet more fun. Visser had been replaced “for tactical reasons” by Fred Krab, who promptly put the car second on the grid, behind van der Beek. The Mazda driver would keep that position until lap 14, when he punctured a rear tire. Euser’s car would not run properly, so he dropped back behind the group of van Dedem, Krab and Hin who finished in this order. Van Krimpen with his familiar rear-wheel drive car was fourth, a raging Hezemans sixth; this time, Huisman, to be lapped, hindered the Porsche of Hezemans who had already spun. After the finish, he rammed the 944 S2 in the trunk of Huisman’s M3 - Hezemans received a severe penalty for this; he was excluded for the next two meetings. |
