The rules were changed a little; now the top-16 took part in the shootout, including Ludwig this time - who promptly delivered and got pole on a drying track, ahead of Soper and Hahne; Mercedes, BMW and Ford. Schnitzer only qualified 9th, 11th and 15th thanks to the Yokohamas, which were not suited to the wet track (or any wet track).
The qualification race was exciting with a battle between Grohs, Manthey and Cudini which went to the flag.
Race 1: Ludwig won the start, and won closely followed by Soper with Cecotto third. But race 2 was different; Ludwig was stuck in first gear on the warmup lap, and Soper retired. Schnitzer took over, but championship challenger Ravaglia retired five laps from the end, while Cecotto - destined for the Italian championship, he had already missed Zolder - won and Giroix, in fourth and meant to be reserve driver only, now led the championship. Second in the race was Hahne, with telemetry for the first time in his car, while Niedzwiedz in another Sierra finished third. But after this good result for Ford, there was more good news: their restrictor diameter was increased from 36 to 40 mm. The party had begun again.
