Robb Gravett lead away from pole but it was Tim Harvey who made a run on him in the early laps on the expense of second qualifier Andy Rouse. A leaking rear brake calliper was soon to disturb Gravett though and would drop as low as seventh at one point. This promoted Tim Harvey and Andy Rouse to the lead battle allowing Laurence Bristow to join in on the fun as well. On lap 9 Harvey slightly overcooked his entry to the Hairpin allowing Rouse to squeeze under. Harvey tried to shot the door but was nudged sideways out of the Hairpin to see Rouse leave him for dead. Victory for Rouse while Harvey and Bristow brought second and third to the Labatt's team in close company. Chris Hodgetts on new Dick Johnson spec Dunlop rear tyres had his most competitive race of the season on home soil snatching forth from Robb Gravett on the penultimate lap. Gerrit van Kouwen complained of a down on power engine but still took sixth with delayed Guy Edwards and Sean Walker in close proximity. Edwards had had an early collision with Mike Smith ending the Trakstar driver out of the race, while Walker was hit from behind by Robb Gravett seeing the Goode Sierra trailing the rear bumper. This caused a black flag and subsequent pit stop to have the offending part removed. |
