The rolling start was as bad as usual; the pace car merely crept, most cars had to enter first to get away decently; it was a sort of rolling standing start. The result was a big lead for Johnson (Sierra), who was followed by Percy (Holden), Perkins, Pirro, Soper and Allam. But Percy was clearly faster and took the lead in lap 2. Soper got by Johnson too, but was unable to keep up with Percy. Johnson came in on lap 8 with a misfire, while Pirro had a coming together with Perkins - the BMW was third, the Holden now fifth with suspicious handling. |
