Moffat makes his first appearance in his new ANZ Sierra, while the series regulars are joined by a couple of locals drivers. DJR hold sway again in qualifying and look set to dominate the race until a rain storm hits the circuit on lap 13. Virtually all the leading contenders slide off the road, and the race is stopped. Confusion reigns over whether the race should be fully restarted, declared with half points, or run on aggregate times. In the end, the race is rerun in its entirety. Several cars struggle with problems caused by sand, ingested when they spun off when the rain hit. Among them Moffat, Miedecke (who lost several laps replacing an alternator) and Bowe, who spun off with brake problems caused by sand filling the cooling ducts.
