Frank Sytner finally took the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone on Sunday after many years of trying. To take the title all he had to do was take his customary Class B win and this he duly did with relative ease, finishing seventh overall. From the sixth lap onwards he could have afforded not to even do that as Andy Rouse surrendered any hopes he had of the crown with a tire failure when in the lead. A pit stop and a 10th place finish followed and victory was handed over to the visiting Eggenberger car of Gianfranco Brancatelli. Rouse didn't even finish second in the championship, a Class D winning Phil Dowsett taking that honour for the TOM's Toyota team. (MN) |
