Group A gave a good show, also because of the rain that has caused many incidents. Bertaggia and Brancatelli and shot off from the front row, but Bertaggia locked the rear brakes and was passed by few cars. Brancatelli, the favourite, was attacked by Francia, and Livio touched the BMW 635 of Giudici and flew over the armco. Brancatelli and Francia had a terrific battle, the first winning by a narrow margin.
