Rouse could be forgiven for grinning. Not only had he won yet another round of the British Touring Car Championship, his sixth but more importantly, had seen off the Eggenberger Ford RS500 of Steve Soper in the process. Last time they met, Soper had decisively won and Rouse was determined to prove he's no loser. The two of them fought out a titanic and enthralling struggle over 20 laps of the Brands Hatch GP circuit in front of a capacity crowd, swapping the lead several times before Rouse led across the line. Behind, Guy Edwards continued his good run with third, Laurence Bristow a deserved fourth ahead of Jerry Mahoney and Karl Jones. The championship lead stayed with Frank Sytner though as his BMW M3 won class B from team-mates Mike Smith and Will Hoy, while Andrew Jeffrey fought of James Shead to take C and Phil Dowsett trounced the field in D.
