Another BMW M3 victory, this time it was Hessel who looked after his rain tires - and was lucky that the rain started again after 12 laps, so he was able to pass the leading Manthey. Of course, he was lucky that Grohs damaged his oil sump and Van der Poele got a puncture. The latter had an inspired race, stormed back to fourth after his tire change, but then spun - he was tenth in the end. Mertes, pressured by his sponsor, ran as high as third but then lost his gearbox, the other Sierras were hampered by the dry period of the track which ruined their tires.
