Since the Spa 24 hours was in the same weekend, air transport was the way to go for people like Grohs and Van de Poele. While Grohs missed second practice and found himself 13th on the grid, young polesitter Van der Poele nearly missed the start since the weather at Spa made the flight back to Wunstorf awkward. Second on the grid was Lindberg in his Volvo.
After a clean start, Grohs was already on his way to the leading group; after passing Reuter he climbed to the lead, with Hessel, Van de Poele, Reuter, van Ommen and Manthey behind. Lindberg soon fell by the wayside with faulty electrics, while van Ommen lost ground after a touch with Reuter. Manthey retired in lap 11 with a broken gear lever, so the final order was Grohs, Hessel and Van de Poele.
