Perhaps the BARC results sheet said it all about the third round of the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship with the line "No race incidents were reported." It was a race of little change and a great deal of tedium for the paying spectator. Only after closer examination was it revealed that the story of the race was tyres, or moreover the manner in which the resurfaced Thruxton track treated them. After complaints from many drivers of a lack of grip during practice, in the race most tyres were ripped to shreds -literally in most cases. One man had no such problems however. He was pole man and race winner Dennis Leech who led from start to finish in his Rover for a long awaited victory. Graham Goode was a fighting second with his pristine RS Cosworth while David Carvell was a tyre troubled third. (MN) |
