On the face of it, the result of the first round of the new look British Touring Car Championship didn't offer anything particularly different with Andy Rouse once again heading the sheets. However, the full story was that Dennis Leech made Rouse work hard for that win, swapping places with the RS Cosworth pilot a number of times during the course of the race. David Carvell took a fine third place in his Rover, fighting back after a bad start, while Graham Goode and Pete Hall had their problems but still had a fine dice for fourth place which went the latter’s way. Graham Scarborough was sixth while Mark Hales, Colin Pearcy and Chris Hodgetts all had reason to smile, winning their classes. If there was a downside to the season opener, it was that only 15 cars made it out for the start, a situation which must change if the series is to pick up. (MN) |
