Strangely for Andy Rouse, it had been a number of months since he tasted victory. The famine ended on Sunday when he won a close fought penultimate round of the British Touring Car Championship, held at Donington Park. He was put under extreme pressure all race long by the BMW M3 of Frank Sytner, out to repeat his victory last time out at the Leicestershire track, but the Nottingham man failed by less than two seconds at the flag. Mike O'Brien's Holden Commodore had been with them for the early laps but the Alan Docking-run car began to overheat and lose power so O'Brien was left to struggle home third, ahead of the Rovers of Tim Harvey and Graham Scarborough, and Mike Newman's BMW. The other two classes went to Colin Pearcy and, inevitably these days, 1987 champion Chris Hodgetts. (MN)
