A new evolution Sierra Cosworth for Reuter - and it had to weigh 1380 kg in DTM specification. Untested, Reuter took time to get used to the car and then the rain set in - he was only 19th on the grid. Grohs had waited too long in practice as well, so both title favourites started from behind. Manthey, Van de Poele and Hessel did better and Manthey took the lead in the race, soon getting distance between him and his followers Van de Poele and Grohs. Hessel fell back a little, but shortly after half-distance Manthey damaged his oil cooler over the remains of teammate Gerold’s car.
From behind Reuter rolled up the field, and he took the lead but then he flat spotted his tires avoiding Gerold’s crash. The surprise winner came from row 4: Giroix in the Alpina BMW, the first victory in ten years for them.
