The Marko AMG Mercedes already had some promising outings, but this time the first DTM win was here. And not for Oberndorfer, who had to race a Renault Alpine in Imola (compare that with today's DTM!), but for stand-in Weidler. Third on the grid, he quickly took the lead with only Thiim challenging him - but the light Mercedes couldn’t be passed under braking. Weidler’s teammate Klammer, fourth on the gird, had an accident in the warm-up and couldn’t start. More incidents in the race: Göring and Behrens collided, just like Winkelhock and Stureson. Manthey finished third, while the first Ford finished fourth with Niedzwiedz. |
