It seemed rather appropriate that Jeff Allam should win this GP supporting round of the British saloon series. Back in 1980, if you remember, it was that man Allam who gave the Vitesse its first victory; at Brands, at the GP meeting. And in the week that the Vitesse's replacement was announced, the 800 series Sterling, it seemed fitting that Jeff should win in a Rover; at Brands, at the GP meeting. "You know," said Jeff afterwards, "there were funny pressures on me to do well. Everybody was expecting me to win, I'm just glad I did. But I love Brands. There's no place like it. It's just so demanding with its bumps, and sweeping bends. I'm just trying to recall, though, the last time I won a race..." That hardly mattered - it just seemed a neat bit of history for Austin Rover and for Jeff Allam. (MN) |
