Two heats in Zolder, and a cracking entry of 37 cars - divided into 5 classes. New was the Toyota MR2, a national group N homologation for this pure GT. It was clearly faster than any Corolla GT, so it remained to be seen if this was a sensible decision.
Guy Nève was the dominant force, fastest in practice and winning heat 1 over the new Toyota Celica Supras of the Belga team, driven by JM Martin and new boy Bertinchamps. Another new entry was the Juma BMW 323 for van der Poele, but he was hampered by a puncture; he would be a force to be reckoned with in the 2500 cc class. More new cars were the Renault 11 Turbos, who fought against many a Golf.
The Supras lacked the power of the BMW, but it was hoped that they would be competitive under braking and in the corners. Heat two didn’t change much in the outcome: Nève winning ahead of Martin and Bertinchamps, with van der Poele, Rutten (Golf), Holvoet (MR2) and Grimard (Polo) winning their class.
