Semoulin didn’t like the normal close racing in Belgian Group N, and dominated the weekend like never before. A full 2 seconds faster than anyone else, he won both heats - and the championship. Vanierschot did not like that at all (he was late in discovering that only the six best results from eight races counted) and demanded the Escort RS Turbo of Semoulin to be taken apart. But the car was declared legal, so Vanierschot had to be content with second in the championship.
In the first heat, Simons had taken the lead while Semoulin played the waiting game, but when Simons blew up Semoulin took the lead. Carlier finished second, ahead of Vanierschot who had a miserable time, stuck behind the Mitsubishi. Valuable points were lost.
The second heat was a carbon copy of the first, with Semoulin leading Carlier, Vanierschot, Nève, Bertinchamps, De Schaetzen and De Jamblinne. Holvoet in his 1600 MR2 finished eight overall, while Van der Poele was troubled by two punctures.
