Against poor opposition, the two JPS BMW cars dominated proceedings, with Richards winning in the car first seen at Bathurst 1984. Crichton, second, drove the spare car on Pirellis, a “detoxed” Group C car awaiting shipment of his own New Zealand car. Dick Johnson, driving an ex-Zakspeed Mustang, retired early.
Alan Jones however, racing an ex-Luigi Alfetta GTV6, had a splendid afternoon in the little car - much better than its Alfa Network sister car of Bond, a converted Group E car. Jones had to pit for new tires, leaving third to Bartlett in his Mitsubishi Starion - a fine result but it would not go any better from this unfortunately.
