His car was “like a dream” so Klaus Ludwig won the Zolder race with ease in the turbo Sierra. The Bridgestone qualifiers of Andersson had brought him pole, but in the race he was no match for Ludwig - just like John and his Camaro. The rest of the field had many retirements: Grohs (water pump belt), Strycek (valve rocker, his first retirement of the year), Vogt (oil sump after a tangle with Asch), and Reuter (wheel hub).
John finished second, being cautious about his brakes after a weight penalty, Stureson third after Andersson had dropped out.
