The eighth round of the Trimoco RAC British Saloon Car Championship was one of the best. More's the pity that the race didn't take place before last Sunday's British GP, for those spectators who left immediately after the F1 would have seen more entertainment from the first five laps of the Group A than they did in 65 of the GP. Having tried desperately hard to stave off Andy Rouse's Sierra XR4Ti for five laps, Dave Brodie could only sit and watch as the reigning champion romped home to yet another taste of the champagne, with German visitor Klaus Niedzwiedz' third place making it a successful day for Rouse's Fords. Although the lead battle subsided, the action down the field did not, and even if both Graham Goode's Nissan Bluebird Turbo and Chris Hodgetts' Escort RS1600i eventually took fairly comfortable class wins, there was sufficient going on elsewhere to take your mind off the clouds and chill wind that prevailed throughout the 15 lap event. Sadly, a post race check saw Goode excluded from the results however. (MN) |
