The new prototype Group A Commodore of Brock (awaiting the homologation of the SS this had a 5.0 engine, 200 kg of extra weight, a 4-speed gearbox and no aerodynamic helpers at all) had an unexpected win here, though he was very closely followed by Richards at the end who then nearly spun. Johnson would also have been faster in a normal race. The Volvo of Francevic however was too untried at this stage; the long-distance car was not really suited to the sprint format races and it would take some time to alter that. |
