There were a few signs that the championship would regain a little lost ground: van Dedem would have a new BMW 323, van der Beek was building a unique Mazda 929 and Fresco built himself a Jaguar XJS - without any help from TWR. It was a brave move, but predictably the car wasn’t really ready for the first race. But the others were: after the start, Vermeulen, Moriz, Hemmes (all Camaro) and Dane Kristoffersen (ex-van der Beek Mazda RX7) stormed into Tarzan, and then Kristoffersen seemed to edge away, but no: he was arrested by Vermeulen who won the race. Koks won the 1600 class, finally having none of the bad luck he so often had these last years. The 1300 cc class was won by one of the ageing Talbot Rallys with Fontijn behind the wheel. |
