Finally, Volvo beat Rover in 1985; and how fitting it took place in Sweden, birth place of Volvo. Brancatelli and Lindtröm had been fastest in qualifying, and in the race they took the lead and never looked back. Rover had a miserable weekend, first the lead car of Walkinshaw broke its gearbox, and when the chef switched to Soper’s car, they lost a wheel after a broken hub. Only Hahne/Allam finished, in third behind another Volvo of Granberg and Olofsson. Müller and Dieudonné in the second Eggenberger Volvo were unlucky still, this time retiring with a broken differential. |
