The entry was far better than the first race, and there were four BMW 635s now. De Deyne dominated the weekend, nearly 2 seconds faster than second qualifier Herregods. The reason for this became apparent after the race: the cars’ suspension and differential were outside the borders of Group N, so he was disqualified. Instead, Jean-Marie Martin won, with Herregods and brother Philippe following. A nice fight was between Rutten and Maillien; Rutten led initially, but when his gearbox played up Maillien closed, and passed - only to spin at the Ickx chicane. Rutten salvaged fifth on the road. |
