It should have been a Jaguar feast, a victory would mean the championship was decided. And three Jags went in front after the start, and it stayed that way after the first routine stops. But then the clouds darkened, and a cloud burst flooded the track before the Woodcote chicane. First victim was Duez, who despite his rally talents could do nothing with slicks on a flooded track. He mowed down the catch fencing and hit the barriers. Next up was Nicholson, who took the same route and ended backwards next to the Rover. He stayed inside his car, and then Barrie Williams arrived in his BMW, touched the Jag and bursting into flames for a short while. When Barrie tried to get Nicholson out of this car, the next participant arrived in the form of Terry Drury’s Alfa Romeo. Williams had just enough time to climb on the Jaguar’s roof... The icing on the cake was Hall’s Metro, who neatly parked between the Alfa and the Jag - just a little forceful, maybe. |
