For the very first time since the British Saloon Car Championship adopted Group A rules, a Rover Vitesse didn't win. That was the main story at Oulton Park, on Good Friday, for the third round of the Trimoco British Saloon Car Championship. On top in practice, James Weaver looked a good bet to upset the Rover applecart in the race, but very few could have expected the sort of dominant performance that the BMW (GB) driver gave. Quite simply, nobody could hold a candle to him. Salvaging Rover honour in a race happily devoid of any stock car tactics was Andy Rouse, his car now fully recovered from its Silverstone bending. Peter Lovett completed the top three, after Sanyo Rover team-mate Tony Pond suffered brief gearbox and exhaust problems. In the classes, Robin Brundle benefitted from the early demise of Jon Dooley, after Patrick Watts' Metro Turbo had packed up on the warm-up lap, and Richard Longman withheld an early challenge from Chris Hodgetts in the smallest division, eventually coming home a clear victor.
