After a considerably long absence, certainly by his standards, Win Percy returned to the British Saloon Car Championship winner's enclosure at Brands Hatch on Monday by taking a convincing victory over championship leader Andy Rouse. Percy was once again the man to beat in practice, as he had been at Brands Hatch in July, but it was Rouse who got and took the advantage from the start. However, six laps into the race the Industrial Control Services Rover Vitesse was slowed as its tyres went off. Percy's Hughes of Beaconsfield Toyota Supra swept through into the lead and took race honours, making this only the second occasion in 20 races that Rover has been beaten.
Dave Brodie took third after an untroubled run in the BBW Colt Starion, with James Weaver's ill-handling CC Racing BMW 635 fourth ahead of team-mate Vince Woodman. Graham Goode led home the Glass B competitors with his Nissan Bluebird Turbo and Richard Longman edged nearer to Rouse in the Drivers' Championship with victory in Class C from Datapost team-mate Alan Curnow.
