The first race of the new season saw some new cars like the BMW 635 of Malcher, Ballot-Léna and Smadja, with a special waiver was granted for the Porsche 924 of Almeras.
Malcher’s pole position seemed of limited use since his heavy (1150 kg) and powerful (350 hp) now faced a damp and cold track. Then there was the question of tyre choice; intermediates were the best option, it seemed. Metge, was instantly disqualified for receiving a push start, and Cudini took the lead from the start before giving way to Malcher who took the lead until the checkered flag. Behind him followed Ballot-Léna, Guitteny, Cudini and Beltoise.
