Peter Lovett won the seventh round of the Trimoco British Group A series at Donington Park last Saturday, part of the supporting programme to the European F2 race. Lovett was the only survivor from the works Rover camp, and inherited the lead just over halfway through the 25 lap event when team-mate Jeff Allam was forced out with wheel trouble, having led from the start. Third works Rover pilot Steve Soper was forced out on the warm up lap, and so it was left to Frank Sytner's BMW 635 CSi to provide Lovett's main opposition. Sytner, however, was never close enough to mount a serious challenge. Showing an improvement on its early season form, Tony Lanfranchi's Opel Monza ran reliably into third place, some way ahead of a class-winning (again) Andy Rouse. The Class C battle provided a few fireworks, John Morris taking the spoils after Alan Minshaw relinquished his class lead with a spin. A touch more acrimony appeared during practice on Friday, when the BMW team protested the works Rovers over the size of their rear wheel arch inserts.
