Steve Soper dominated a sadly tedious Group A race at Brands Hatch last Sunday, his second win in the four rounds of the Trimoco Championship held so far. An early accident to Peter Lovett robbed Soper of one likely challenger, whilst second-placed Jeff Allam fell further and further back as the race went on, hampered by worn tyres. All in all the race was a pretty poor advertisement for the Group A series, although it should be pointed out that both Lovett and Allam are driving cars which, due to a shortage of parts, are not yet 100% in Group A trim, unlike that of Soper. Maybe we'll get a few more fireworks when the three cars are evenly matched. In the classes, Andy Rouse stepped into Pete Hall's Alfa GTV6 and showed his flair with a fine third place overall, whilst Class C had a different winner yet again, Alan Curnow giving the Escort RS1600i its first success after John Morris had fallen back with appalling tyre wear problems. Off the track, there were a couple of interesting items, Tony Pond's new MG Metro Turbo being one, and Win Percy's new Toyota another.
