The tenth and penultimate round of the Tricentrol Saloon Car Championship brought the first rainy race of the season and the even seasonal contest amongst the big cars of five victories all for Rover and Capri. For the fourth time this season VW Motors/Esso Capri charger Vince Woodman brought Ford a win (fastest qualifier and initial leader Gordon Spice has provided Ford's other victory), Jeff Allam's 13 laps leading for the TWR/Sanyo Rover equipe abruptly terminated by the sudden showers that brought others grief, including inversion without injury for John Morris and his VW Golf GTI. Second after a tough race went to Brian Muir (PMG Rover V8) with Allam peering round an occasionally errant bonnet to retrieve third in his bent blue Rover - which had run into the tires exiting a very slippery Druids. Win Percy had the satisfaction of fourth overall and one of three new class records set in the early sunshine, Allam snatching a new outright mark of 1.39,0s (95,05 mph). |
