Zolder was nearly an exact copy of the triumphal weekend at the German GP, with one exception: apart from victory, pole and fastest lap in both divisions, the other two Capris finished 2-3 in Division 2, making it the ideal Zakspeed weekend. And it came even better: Ludwig clinched the title, 2 races before the end of the season.
The team was helped by problems for Lancia: head gasket in practice, and for Müller Jr in the race. Heyer was touched by Hamelmann, got a puncture and finished no higher than fifth after his pit stop.
Division 2 wasn’t exciting at all, but division 1 was a little better. In lap 1, the lead changed between Winkelhock and Wollek four times, but then Winkelhock said good-bye and disappeared. The next time Wollek saw the Capri it appeared in his rear view mirrors - to lap him, helped by the tires of the Kremer car going off. Stuck’s turbo BMW had gearbox problems, bad brakes and a slow puncture and in the end turbo pressure dropped, his car ran only on five cylinders - and Danner passed him for third.

Trophy wins were for Henzler and Lilier, after Henzler’s car had been damaged in practice.
