With the thin field of Group 5 cars in mind, the inevitable happened: division 1 was won by a BMW M1, and not Stuck’s turbo car; that one was scratched since sponsor Lubrifilm refused to pay the bills. Instead, Henzler’s group 4 car won the race, although fellow group 4 driver König thought he’d won since he crossed the line first. But he had forgotten that the race had been stopped after seven laps, when the rain set in. For the remaining distance, the race was started again and König wasn’t smart enough to stretch his lead over Henzler to 28 seconds; he thought heat 2 was a new race. He wasn’t amused, but Henzler was. The new Kremer K4 was hampered by a broken turbo - fifth was the result, behind Schornstein (”a 935 is undrivable in this weather” - for him at least!), but the podium was in the hands of BMW. Winkelhock had already retired in lap 3 with engine failure.

Division 2 was less surprising; the short-stroke engine for Ludwig was used for the first time in the race and Ludwig won over team mate Niedzwiedz and Heyer.
