The famous “Grosser Preis der Tourenwagen” really was the wrong title for this race. It should have been the traditional 6 hour race for the ETCC, which it had been since 1963 and the race itself was even older. But now, all what remained was a race for the DRM with a bad entry - in fact the worst of this year, especially in division 1 which had only 4 Group 5 cars of which two were top-level cars, since the Schnitzer BMW did not appear.

Division 1
So it was a fight between Wollek and Winkelhock, but when Wollek won the start, Winkelhock could keep up for a while and tried a few times - but when he lost the slipstream after passing a backmarker, it was over and he had to settle for second. Henzler won the Trophy once again, with König having to cope with a down on power engine; and no money to solve just that.

Division 2
Another retirement for Niedzwiedz here, but more unusual was that Hamelmann and even Ludwig retired! So since Brun was absent as well, the only car to threaten the Lancias was the aged car of Becker; he finished a respectable third, but Heyer won ahead of Müller Jr. The Rennsport Trophy was won by Boller after Selzer retired.
