Stuck sure impressed in practice: after he had a big shunt with his Turbo-M1, where car and driver were damaged, he switched into last years’ 320 Turbo to set a time in case the M1 wouldn’t be repaired in time for the race.
But the mechanics were able to get the car in shape again, and 4:30 Sunday morning the job was done. Stuck repaid by driving to third while being in a lot of pain. Up front, there was a fight between Mass and Wollek with the latter finishing first, after Mass had dropped back when the Joest car lost power - though Wollek lost 2 cylinders near the end; the race shouldn’t have lasted any longer! Winkelhock had many problems this weekend, both in practice and in the race - he retired after 33 laps because of oil loss.

Division 2 was a little boring, Ludwig winning over Heyer and Müller Jr after Niedzwiedz retired - the D&W driver posing the greatest threat for Ludwig despite his inferior car.
