Wollek missed pole with only 3/100th of a second - the Capri had beat him once again. The only other car capable of running near the front was Stuck’s M1; but that car already retired after lap 2. Winkelhock had the better start but Wollek soon took over on the straight, and although the Capri stayed close behind waiting for an error of the Frenchman, he couldn’t get past - so finally the got his second win of the season. Winkelhock nearly lost second when his turbo appeared to give up but he could reach the finish. Any other finisher was at least 2 laps behind - so much for the wise decision to keep division 1 and 2 separate; Ludwig or his colleagues would have easily finished third in this race. Concerning Ludwig, he had a race of his own with Niedzwiedz following in second; he lowered the lap record by nearly 1,5 seconds - an immense achievement for such a short track. But young Hamelmann had been the first leader of the race, until he met a spinning Brun - a collision, a battered hand and a retirement followed. Heyer finished third, after removing all the ground-effect goodies the car behaved better. Team mate Müller Jr gave up after 5 visits to the pits with electrical problems. The Rennsport Trophaë: König spared his new engine and used the old one in the race - and regretted bitterly: his engine gave up, and Henzler won the race with ease, while in division 2 the Kamei Audi had a massive accident after meeting Ski champion Arnold: “One set of Kamei-spoilers for the one who brings photographic evidence how the accident happened!” - they were furious about the Austrian champion and amateur racing driver. |
