Ludwig was champion, but the fight for second place was still open between Wollek, Heyer and Winkelhock. The latter claimed pole for the race with only two minutes of final practice left. Wollek took the lead for the first nine laps, but then he made an error in the Sachs curve and Winkelhock passed him on the outside. Stuck was missing in division 1, since the brakes of the M1 still gave trouble - and a switch to Lockheed was expensive for only two remaining races. So the 320 was wheeled out again, Brun racing with his group 4 M1 in Division 1 instead.
But despite Stuck testing for 170 laps, his weekend was a disaster: two accidents in practice and a retirement in the race. Heyer was unlucky to, having to pit for fuel - and team mate Müller Jr lost a wheel. No remaining opposition for Zakspeed also, finishing in the order Ludwig, Niedzwiedz and Hamelmann.

Trophy
The Nothelle Audi of Lilier was under suspicion of his class opponents, and there were found two minor infringements, but when these were corrected the Audi was allowed to start. There remained suspicions about a 2.2 engine, illegal fuel, usage of Quattro parts and a longer wheelbase (!) - Nothelle had bent the rules before.
Still, we had a race, with Selzer winning the class and youngster Van Ommen in second, despite using a 4-speed gearbox rather than a 5-speed. In the big class, Henzler had a new sensation by finishing only fourth - but the championship had been in the pocket at Zolder already.
