Ludwig was champion, but the fight for second place was still open between Wollek, Heyer and Winkelhock. The latter claimed pole for the race with only two minutes of final practice left. Wollek took the lead for the first nine laps, but then he made an error in the Sachs curve and Winkelhock passed him on the outside. Stuck was missing in division 1, since the brakes of the M1 still gave trouble - and a switch to Lockheed was expensive for only two remaining races.
