At several meetings this year, the Tricentrol RAC British Saloon Car Championship race has provided the best event of the day. Such was indisputably the case at the BRDC's fine Pentax Trophy Meeting at Silverstone last weekend. The Tricentrol event provided some thrilling dices all through the large 34-car field, ending with three of the four classes being settled only on the last lap, and by advantages of less than one second!

The exception, was the 2.3-litre division, which Win Percy once again thoroughly dominated, creating a new class record. He maintained the excellent 100% reliability of his Tom Walkinshaw Racing-prepared Pentax Mazda RX7 and underlining his title-winning form. In the overall stakes, however, a badly worn left rear tyre almost robbed Gordon Spice of his sixth win of the year and saw Andy Rouse close right up onto his team-mates’ tail over the course of the final 2.9 mile lap.

In the hard-fought 1600cc category, Tony Lanfranchi scored another quite brilliant victory, guiding the third of the Akai-Audis to a narrow win over Chris Hodgetts' Toyota, which took the class honours in the championship. Richard Lloyd's Audi was next, while John Morris (VW Scirocco) nearly beat Lloyd!
Finally, the smallest class featured a thrilling dice between Jon Dooley's Alfasud and the Datapost Fiesta of Alan Curnow, the latter coming out on top by a margin of just 0.27s, setting a new class lap record.
